Selected by Le Monde as one of its "Promising Artists of 2026," Lisa Strauss has established herself as one of the most distinctive young French cellists of her generation. Recognized for the intensity of her playing, the richness of her collaborations, and the originality of her programs, she has developed an artistic universe at the crossroads of the great repertoire, contemporary creation, and innovative stage performances.
Born into a family of musicians, she began playing the piano at the age of five before dedicating herself to the cello. After studying at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris with Hélène Dautry, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris at the age of sixteen, studying with Michel Strauss, where she earned her Master's degree with highest honors. She then continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, obtaining an artist's diploma.
Throughout her musical training, Lisa Strauss honed her skills under the tutelage of renowned figures such as Gautier Capuçon, Yo-Yo Ma, Ivry Gitlis, and Lynn Harrell. In 2017, she joined the Philippe Jaroussky Music Academy and subsequently entered the Louis Vuitton Foundation's Cello Excellence Program. A laureate of several prestigious foundations, including the Banque Populaire Foundation and the Gautier Capuçon Foundation, she now enjoys a career as a soloist and chamber musician in France and internationally.
A curious and committed artist, Lisa Strauss regularly collaborates with contemporary composers such as Régis Campo, Matthieu Stefanelli, and Thomas Gubitsch. She is also a cellist with the Limitless Orchestra, founded by Aleksey Igudesman, who dedicated a work to her.
A passionate chamber musician, she co-founded the Philia Trio with Théo Ould and Pierre Liscia-Beaurenaut, as well as the Duo SHUM with pianist Anastasia Rizikov. Their debut album, released by Warner Classics in 2024, was critically acclaimed. Lisa Strauss is currently preparing her first solo album, developing her artistic vision in collaboration with artistic director David Herman, pursuing a personal approach focused on exploring repertoire and contemporary creation.
A frequent guest at numerous prestigious festivals and venues, Lisa Strauss is distinguished by her sensitive and theatrical approach to concert performance, where the cello becomes a true instrument of storytelling. Her work explores both the great works of the repertoire and new compositions, with particular attention to the dialogue between the arts and the audience experience.

The Gautier Capuçon Foundation presents the debut album of the Duo Shum, set to be released on May 31, 2024 under the Warner Classics – Erato label. Comprised of Canadian-Ukrainian pianist Anastasia Rizikov and Franco-Russian cellist Lisa Strauss, the duo pays homage to their Slavic roots in this fascinating musical journey, from the fantastical Turkey envisioned by Fazil Say to the diabolical emotional shock of Alfred Schnittke.
The unique aesthetics of each piece reveal the infinite palette of colors and timbres of the two musicians. This rare repertoire is associated with iconic pieces of Slavic music. The Duo Shum also wished to honor the Ukrainian repertoire by recording two pieces by Myroslav Skoryk and Mykola Lysenko.

It’s the story of a violin, an accordion, and a cello that meet on the benches of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. “Beethoven, Pärt, Vivaldi, Prokofiev, mixing strings and an accordion, that’s bold!” An Honor and Public Prize at the Léopold Bellan International Competition later: it’s a match! Because these three young award-winning artists are anything but classical. Lisa Strauss, Théo Ould, and François Pineau-Benois harmonize their differences across all styles, from baroque to contemporary.
Régis Campo and Tomas Gubitsch entrust them with their creations, and filmmakers Yvan Schreck and Romain Winkler collaborate with their talents. Their musical friendship modernizes the repertoire, mixes genres, and galvanizes, revealing a new generation of creatives. Their debut album “Madness,” produced by DiscAuverS, the “discovery mission” label of the Auvers-Sur-Oise Festival, doesn’t lie: They have Follia at their fingertips.
