A global musical experience
Conceived with multidisciplinary director & curator David Herman
Lisa Strauss presents Brutal Baroque, her first solo project intended to reveal the brutal and expressive power of her style, while embodying her lively vision of classical music, which breaks down the borders of eras and disciplines. This concept was conceived with David Herman, a multidisciplinary director and curator. He guides the cellist in translating her world into a "global narrative atmosphere," generating original creations and collaborations.
Musically, Brutal Baroque is distinguished by its transgenerational interpretation of the Baroque expressiveness, from its historical roots to its contemporary forms. It brings together rare and radical references from Lisa's repertoire, from the virtuosity of Marin Marais to the avant-garde of Penderecki, and the primal depth of Vasks. It also explores the realms of rock and electronic music through collaborations or iconoclastic compositions (movements based on samples by Régis Campo).
Brutal Baroque transcends the music-album project, becoming a "total" manifesto. Talents from visual arts, fashion, decor, dance, and even culinary arts, drawn from their artistic family, are regularly commissioned for creating visual productions, scenarized shows, and in-situ performances, immersing audiences in truly cathartic and transformative experiences.
RECORDING SESSION
Under the recommendations of Franck Jaffrès, Sound Engineer of the album, Brutal Baroque is recorded in the surroundings of the Church of Saint-Lambert des Bois, near Paris: a unique acoustic, both brutal and mystical, generated by this 13th-century Romanesque building.
This church was the recording location for the soundtrack of Alain Corneau’s prominent film Tous les matins du Monde, about the life of Marin Marais, interpretated by Jordi Savall.
COLLABORATIONS
From fashion to interiors, from art to culinary arts, from dance to electronic music, Lisa, driven by the multidisciplinary curatorial expertise of David Herman and his artistic family, explores new fields of expression through collaborations with talents who share the same radical creative approach, at the intersection of a heritage of excellence and an avant-garde vision. Beyond revealing the diversity of Lisa’s artistic territory, this approach seeks to transform classical music into a “total cathartic experience”.
